tips on refrigerator ownership for the mentally ill
1.) letting food go bad does NOT make you a Bad Person.
2.) it is okay to throw out only one thing at a time. even especially if there are a lot of expired things in there.
3.) give yourself permission to throw out tupperware once in a while.

Taking the current topic as an excuse to ask you to tell me all the reasons you love Rarijack. Your art for the ship is so sweet and intimate I'd love to hear any in depth thoughts you have.
Breathes in.
I think what makes their dynamic really strong is that they have opposing personalities but aligned values. It's deeper than just "opposites attract." Rarity's fancy, prissy, and femme while Applejack's modest, rough, and "masculine." But both value hard work (to the point of being workaholics), their families (both have guardianship over their little sisters), running successful businesses, and eventually each other. Their relationship can be boiled down to, "Despite our differences/disagreements, I still like you because we value the same things."
We see their relationship develop so much. In the first season, they can't stop bickering about surface-level differences. By season four, they still bicker, but will mend their relationship because they can't help but do nice things for each other. In Trade Ya, they start off arguing over personality differences (Applejack likes old junk and Rarity likes useless crap). Then they pivot and start arguing that they value their relationship more than the other. In the end, they mend things by sacrificing their needs and buying each other a gift. Even if they don't understand it, they know it'd make the other happy. And that's all that really matters. It's a genuinely sweet moment that shows how arguing can be healthy and necessary for relationships to strengthen.
We even see them dropping their hang-ups about each others' personalities. In Made in Manehattan, when Rarity runs off in dramatics about someone's fashion, AJ doesn't roll her eyes or scoff, she smiles. Oftentimes, their conflicts are very common domestic conflicts romantic couples face. Applejack's Day Off is about a woman's inability to balance work and life and find time to properly spend with her partner, causing her partner to feel neglected.
By season seven, they're actively participating in each others' interests. Any problems or conflicts that arise are dealt with, and they come out the other end stronger and closer. In Honest Apple, AJ pretty much spells out why their relationship works so well: even though she doesn't understand fashion, she can recognize and appreciate how much work it takes and wants to respect that. When she realizes her mistake in the episode, AJ goes above and beyond to fix things and apologize to Rarity. They care about each other so much.
The two go out of their way, sacrificing their personal desires and beliefs and doing things they normally wouldn't, to make the other happy. That's just love.
Tumblr media
There's Simple Ways, where AJ gets stuck in an unwanted love triangle between Rarity and her hipster crush. And her frustration and anger can be so easily interpreted as AJ finding herself in a terrible position; the girl she loves wants another man, and that man wants her.
I dunno. I've always had a preference for opposites attract ships, but Rarijack's stuck with me like a brain worm because they have the perfect chemistry. The way they show they care, or do things for each other, I've always read it as the truest representation of romance in the show.

It would be really cool if they invented a fourth generation antipsychotic that can decrease dopaminergic and serotonergic pathway activity for psychosis/mood, but also provide some stimulating effects (like Effexor or Wellbutrin) for focus and alertness without raising the risk of acute mania/heart problems/akathisia/tardive dyskinesia. I understand why they can't do this, but in an ideal world, I would like to see it. Sharks, my pitch to you is

My Neurodivergent “hot takes”
(As someone who is heavily neurodivergent and struggles with things like anxiety, executive dysfunction, and fatigue)
• You don’t need to rely on motivation when integrity and self-respect are non-negotiable to you.
• impact > intent
• Some people do unfortunately only learn essential skills and necessary awareness through trauma and reasonable amounts of shame. As an adult, not every lesson can be gentle - especially when you’re painfully out of touch and/or not comprehending your impact. Sometimes embarrassment is necessary for growth.
• As a neurodivergent, not every behavior pattern or habit should be accepted/accommodated. A shitty behavior is a shitty behavior regardless of if you have a fancy explanation for it and have just decided you’re excused. And yes, neurodivergent people can be lazy too.
• A lot of people in the ND community love to say “it’s not an excuse, it’s an explanation!” when in reality, a lot of the time those things are synonymous. If people with cluster b disorders started saying that in regard to their narcissistic or poor behavior, I think a lot of y’all would back pedal on that one real quick. You either have a valid excuse or you don’t. Taking real accountability means doing exactly that. Not obnoxiously word vomiting with a story or explanation in response to being called out. Honestly, I’ve seen people with npd and aspd take way better accountability than a lot of people with audhd and similar neurodivergence.
• Not all feelings are automatically valid just because you’re having them
• Many times, unchecked anxiety - especially when you’re out with people is selfish and comes off as incredibly insufferable after a certain point. You aren’t a main character and if being perceived on a normal level by others is that disabling, you should have just stayed home rather than taking away from everyone else’s experience to center your own.
• If you use your adhd as an excuse to straight up neglect your friendships or forget they exist, you can’t be surprised or blame anyone else when you lose those connections. The price to be paid for community is occasional inconvenience. People not wanting to be treated as if they’re dead/don't exist half the time is human nature, not ableism 🤡 if you only ever consider people when it's convienient for you, it's not your adhd at fault. You're just being a shitty person who hasn't taken responsibility and built systems around what's important to you. I’d rather have someone who has to set unique reminders to check in than someone who doesn’t check in or act like they care at all.

What Radovid meant:
"Back home, I'm a sad wet cat that likes wearing a thick and heavy fur cloak over a long sleeved shirt and a puffy quilted doublet. I also prefer letting my hair down my shoulders to keep my neck warm, and will enjoy sitting at the very end of the table with my back directly to the fire..."

How to overcome Executive Dysfunction
Inspired by @vanillaoldie on Tiktok
First of all, who does executive dysfunction affect?
Executive dysfunction primarily affects people with mental illness or people who experienced child abuse.
What is executive dysfunction?
According to Healthline, executive function describes the cognitive skills that allow you to do things like pay attention, stay on task, regulate emotions etc.
People with executive dysfunction have difficulty developing or using any of these skills leading to things like...
Chronic procrastination.
Finding it challenging to get started on tasks.
Having a hard time keeping your space clean and organised.
Finding it difficult to manage time or stick to a schedule.
Finding it challenging to navigate frustration or setbacks.
Having difficulty following directions that involve multiple steps.
Finding it challenging to control impulses and emotions.
Executive dysfunction refers to difficulties developing or using any of these abilities or behaviors (associated with organisation and regulation).
A strategy to overcome Executive Dysfunction is Intrinsic Motivation
When you are intrinsically motivated, you engage in an activity because you enjoy it and get personal satisfaction from doing it.
According to the Self-Determination theory- the 3 basic needs for you to feel intrinsically motivated are the feelings of:
Autonomy: "The feeling of being in charge of your goals and behaviour"; You feel like you can make your own independent decisions.
Competence: "The sufficient ability, judgement, strength or intellect to accomplish a task"; You feel good at your task.
Relatedness: "The sense of social belonging"; You feel like you belong in the place you are executing your task.
How to apply Intrinsic Motivation to reach your goals
We need to overcome the insecurities we have around our autonomy, competence and relatedness.
Example: The goal is to study.
Autonomy-
Instead of thinking about how you need to study in order to pass the class or to not fall behind your classmates think about why you want to study. Remember, it's your mind and your decision.
"I study because I WANT to. I want to learn because I find the subject interesting and you like acquiring knowledge."
Competence-
Instead of thinking about all the work and effort you'll need to put into learning the study material and therefore experiencing task paralysis as a result of feeling incompetent; think about what will happen after you finish studying. View the feeling of competence as the reward for completing the task.
"I'm now smarter as a consequence of studying. The next time I need to study I'll know I am very capable and good at it. "
Relatedness
Instead of dwelling on your student anxiety or imposter syndrome focus on why you belong there in your course.
"I have passed the same exam as everyone to enter the course. I am just as capable and gifted as everyone here. I belong here. My university accepted me for a reason."
Write out your own affirmations as related to the 3 needs of intrinsic motivation when you are experiencing executive dysfunction but want to achieve a goal.
I hope this is helpful and be kind to yourself <333
Dido

I'm a little late for WIP Wednesday but I haven't knit since Wednesday so it still counts right?
I have absolutely smashed this underarm portion of the back panel, on row 153/160 (95%!!!). However. My goal for the underarm length is 24 inches. And I'm currently at 22. T-T I will Increase My Total (168 will probably work but I'll report back when I have motivation)
I'm already looking ahead to the upper back portion, which will be about 64 rows based on my gauge. Plus a couple more rows for shoulder shaping.... I'm Actually on row 153 out of 238. 64% finished.
I'm usually a Process Knitter but this is very much a Product Knitter's project. I keep daydreaming about all the lace shawls I could be knitting (but never wear). But the Evil Pink Cardigan.... My precious...

Thought dredged up by nothing in particular
genuinely its a tossup between whether or not i transitioned so late because of apathy or repression but i think the main takeaway is that some people literally just arent ready to be a person until their mid 20's at best and thats not a condemnation. in my case apparently i was so extremely mentally unwell in highschool that i dont even REMEMBER that i tried taking anti-depressants already, and that they made me very angry. i remember scant few things from my school years period but most of what i do recall is not pleasant.
like its not even a case of that past version of me being dead so much as they never existed in the first place. its all gone, i'd like to request a do-over but then that means i'd have to like, live in rural illinois again wich i do not recommend. therapists would have a field day i swear, don't even know what i'd say to one tbh.
